Les films et séries avec des rappeurs US

Dans les années 90, peu de rappeurs voulaient se lancer dans le cinéma. 30 ans après, nombreux sont ceux qui veulent décrocher des rôles à Hollywood.

Tout d’abord, remercions les producteurs de films comme John Singleton et Spike Lee. Sans ces visionnaires, la culture hip-hop aurait tardivement été introduite dans les films. Pour la petite histoire, le début des années 90 représente une période importante pour le rap américain et son influence dans le cinéma.

Alors que l’industrie du rap explosait, des hommes noirs devenaient réalisateurs, scénaristes et producteurs. Ils faisaient partie du mouvement appelé « New Black Realism ». En gros : l’urbanisme, les ghettos, la population Afro-américaine, le racisme, la violence et les gangs étaient des sujets importants dans les scénarios. Aussi, le rap était le genre musical dominant des tracklists. En peu de temps, les chansons utilisées devenaient des hits. Le résultat de ces films ? Un séisme. Ils ont secoué l’Amérique. En sortant des salles de cinéma, les spectateurs étaient frappés par les images, les personnages et l’intrigue en général. Pour cause, ils se reconnaissaient à travers les grands écrans.

Le classique Boyz N The Hood, par exemple, a été produit en 1991 par Singleton alors qu’il avait seulement 23 ans. Dans celui-ci, Ice Cube incarne le rôle de DoughBoy avec perfection. Heureusement pour lui d’ailleurs car à l’époque accepter un rôle était risqué. Les artistes pouvaient perdre en crédibilité si leur jeu d’acteur était médiocre.

Les légendes de Los Angeles, Ice Cube, Tupac ou encore Snoop Dogg. John Singleton était l’un des premiers producteurs à donner des rôles importants à des rappeurs. Désormais, que ce soit pour des rôles principaux ou secondaires, il n’est plus rare de voir des artistes de la scène urbaine tenter leur chance dans le cercle fermé d’Hollywood.
